This course explores the materials and learning the process of hand-building clay forms. Through lectures and images, students will not only practice drawing as process but also create clay work that experimenting and pushing the boundaries of form, function and possibilities. It is designed to give the student a basic understanding of the thought process of the visual experiment, the technical aspects associated with using clay as a media, and to develop an awareness and appreciation for the visual arts, specifically the three dimensional form of clay. We will learn from each other’s process and experimentation. Students will learn clay hand-building techniques such as: Slab, Coil and Pinch Pots and their variety, as well as, applying slip, create stamps, and use clay carved and pressed textures.
