Special Topic Study
International Asian Ceramics Preview provides an important mission that explores cultural, educational, and communicative ways of professional artistic aesthetics. It also has unique characteristics which describe its value, creativity, and process. This course offers critical thinking through professional experience; as well as cultural and international learning experience. The course will enhance the students’ understanding of traditional Asian ceramics philosophy, art theory, and professional studio practice. Students will be educated through the professional international cultural experience, travel, program lectures, group discussions, workshops, professional demonstrations on hand-building, wheel throwing, carving, glazing, calligraphy, paper making, brush making, traditional form designing, ancient wood-firing and kiln building construction; as well as Asian ceramics aesthetics. Students will have the opportunity to work alongside professional international artists allowing them a one-on-one learning experience with an unusual cultural impact. This course will challenge the students’ professional experience and artistic aesthetic beyond the boundaries of technical training. Students will learn to express themselves through the intimate examination of the medium. This course emphasizes the commitment of a professional ceramics education which shapes students for their professional future and careers.
